Jeter Eyeing May Return

According to ESPN beat writer Wallace Matthews, Yankee Captain Derek Jeter is likely out until May.

Jeter has been rehabbing an ankle injury he suffered during the 2012 American League Championship Series against the Tigers.

According to Matthews' article; Manager Joe Girardi said on Friday that Jeter was likely to need close to a "full spring training reset" once he is cleared to begin playing games again.

Jeter stayed behind in Tampa when the Bombers headed north to start the season.

Currently, Eduardo Nunez is filling in at short for Jeter. Nunez finished the opening series against Boston with a .364 average, collecting 4 hits in 10 at bats. Nunez also swiped a bag, but struck out 3 times in the home opener.

Update 2:24 - Eduardo Nunez was removed from today's game against the Tigers after taking a fastball to the right (throwing) bicep. Jayson Nix replaced Nunez as he was helped off the field by Yankee trainers.

Things to Chew On - April 5th

April 5, 2013

The Detroit Tigers bullpen situation gets a little more interesting as they've brought back former closer, Jose Valverde. The Tigers signed Valverde to a minor league deal, hoping to add options to help protect late inning leads.

Former Angels, Nationals, and Expos slugger Vlad Guerrero signed a deal with the Long Island Ducks in attempts to revive his MLB career. According to ESPNs, Jerry Crasnick, Guerrero turned down multiple international offers in favor of the Ducks'.

Update - 2:09 PM: The Long Island Ducks also just signed former Rookie of the Year Dontrelle Willis to a contract to join Guerrero in the Atlantic League.

Congratulations to Orioles first baseman, Chris Davis. Davis homered for the tenth time in ten games, setting a Major League Baseball record. Davis has homered for the third consecutive game this season and currently leads the majors with eleven RBIs.

Rawhide Times Relaunches

April 5, 2013
White Plains, NY

The creator of the baseball blogging site "Rawhide Times' have announced the relaunching of the website, which was initially launched in the summer of 2010.

Chris Lima, the site's head designer, writer, and probably only reader, decided it was time to delve back into the world of sports reporting.

"Writing has always been a passion of mine, as is baseball. I feel this website gives me the opportunity to focus on both."

Rawhide Times is a subdivision of Little Guy Productions; a social, web, video, and photography company based in Rockland County, NY.

Lima graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2005 with a degree in Mass Communications (concentration on Film and TV production). He was a staff writer for the campus newspaper, covering both women's soccer and men's baseball. Lima was also the co-host of "The Worst Damn Sports Show", a four hour mind numbing weekly sports radio broadcast .

Matt Kemp Trade Rumors

Super Agent Dave Stewart suggested to the LA Times that it might be time for the Dodgers to trade Matt Kemp to fill some organizational holes.

In a phone interview with Bill Plaschke, Stewart says "It's almost like it's open season on Matt, and it's not right. It's a bunch of back-seat crap."

Stewart is most likely referring to the issues Kemp has had with coaches Bob Schaefer and Larry Bowa.

Kemp was even benched this week, as his poor play continues to perplex Dodger fans and managerial staff.

Stewart goes on to suggest the hostile working environment is to blame for Kemp's poor performance, "It's very, very difficult to play under the circumstances that Kemp is playing under."

At only 25 years old and a contract worth just under $7 million for next season, (Kemp enters free agency in 2012) Stewart thinks the Dodgers could fill some holes in their team by trading Kemp (while he continues to maintain that he's not demanding his star client be traded).

Dodger GM Ned Colletti refutes the idea that Kemp in another uniform is a good idea;

"No, I have no plans to trade him," said Colletti. "He's got a chance to be one of the best players in the history of the franchise."
