The Atlanta Braves were dealt a severe blow with the loss of Chipper Jones thanks to a torn ACL.
Only two games ahead of the Phillies, Atlanta needs to look for a solution to their hole at the hot corner.
Possible Solutions:
Internal: Martin Prado can play third, whenever he returns from his thumb injury. With Omar Infante and Brooks Conrad on the roster, the three can form a platoon spelling each other at third and second. As Ben Nicholson-Smith from MLBTR.com points out, Eric Hinske won the 2002 Rookie of the Year Award while playing third for the Blue Jays.
The Braves could also consider moving Troy Glaus over to third (his natural position) and call up Freddy Freeman from Triple A. According to GM Frank Wren, this is the least likely of any option, as he said this injury doesn't change the Braves' first base situation.
Outside Help: The Mariners tried to ship Chone Figgins to the Braves around the deadline this year, so there's rumblings that they'd try and float another deal to Atlanta in the wake of Chipper's injury.
