UPDATE: The deal has gone through. Guillen is now a member of the San Fransisco Giants. The Royals will receive a player to be named later or cash.

According to ESPN reporter Enrique Rojas' twitter account, the Giants and the Royals are close to a deal that would send slugger Jose Guillen to the Bay.


The Royals designated Guillen for assignment earlier this month. Guillen is currently sporting a .255 batting average with 16 home runs.

The deal could be completed in time for Jose to join his new team for tonight's game against the Padres.

MLBTradeRumors.com is speculating that the remaining money on Guillen's contract ($3.39 million) may be the only thing holding up the deal from completion.
